Field Application Scientist

The Field Applications Scientist plays a pivotal role supporting our growing customer base in the Boston/East Coast region. The hired candidate must reside within driving distance of Providence, RI and be willing to travel frequently to customer sites. Reporting directly to the Director of Field Applications, the FAS is responsible for directly supporting sales and application development in the field and at our newly designated San Diego laboratory. The FAS has an exclusive focus on the newly launched electronic genome mapping (EGM) instrument (OhmXTM) and accompanying analytics software. Working closely with the commercial team, the FAS is instrumental in helping navigate the application space for EGM.
The successful candidate must have previous experience as an application scientist in some capacity related to genomics instrument sales or orthogonal technologies and the enthusiasm to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. - Engage with new and existing customers to educate and support our end-to-end workflow for EGM
- Provide client and product feedback to internal teams as required (voice of customer)
- In pre-sales environments, conduct seminars to educate and scientifically collaborate with customers in the planning and design of scientific projects to either support the purchase of an instrument or through partnership with an Nabsys core labs
- In post-sales environments, train new customers and scientifically partner with clients in project scoping and design elements to increase product adoption and usage and participate in the cultivation of revenue generating post-sales support and consultative opportunities
- Perform installations of new instruments
- Train new customers and partner with clients to increase product adoption and usage
- Work with product management and marketing teams to position and promote EGM applications
- Document activities and customer interactions in the CRM software (SalesForce.com)
- Conduct presentations on technology, applications, and use cases at tradeshows, lunch and learns, and sponsored seminars
- Contribute to the development and refinement of processes and materials used by the Nabsys organization to improve the information and tools needed by the global team to advance the needs of our customers and to help to build a world-class customer experience organization
- MS/PhD in a relevant field is required, with 4+ years of hands-on experience working in a wet lab with molecular biology protocols
- Experience with nucleic acid extraction and sequencing library preparation as well as experience in high molecular weight DNA isolation and handling
- Experience leading the design and execution of application briefs, technical notes, and case studies
- Knowledge in the use of genomic sequencing technologies
- Strong analytics background with exposure to bioinformatics pipelines
- Exposure to long-read NGS, FISH, microarray, karyotyping, and/or genome mapping a plus
- Experience with laboratory developed tests and CLIA environment a plus
- Track record of quality work through publication.
- This is an onsite position in Providence, RI that requires up to 50% domestic & international travel with some remaining time at a designated laboratory location and occasional trips to San Diego, CA
