Nabsys is seeking a hands-on, security-minded IT Engineer to join our growing internal IT team. This role provides direct support to the IT Manager and will be involved in the daily operation and continual strengthening of our IT infrastructure, data security posture, and internal services.

The ideal candidate has foundational experience in data security, infrastructure administration, endpoint management, and cloud services—with a strong desire to learn, mature into more independent responsibility, and support a highly technical scientific and engineering workforce.

This position is on-site at our Providence, RI headquarters.

The IT Engineer reports to the IT Manager.

Infrastructure & Systems Support

  • Assist with management, maintenance, documentation, and expansion of Nabsys’ on-premises IT environment, including:
  • Infrastructure servers and services
  • High-performance compute nodes
  • NAS systems and storage tiers
  • Domain and group policies
  • Firewall administration and network segmentation
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and access controls
  • Perform routine audits, patching, and upgrades

Data Security & Compliance

  • Support implementation of IT security best practices for on-premises and cloud systems
  • Maintain secure configurations, access controls, MFA enforcement, and identity management
  • Participate in cybersecurity posture reviews, internal audits, and policy enforcement
  • Assist with vulnerability mitigation, asset tracking, and incident response workflows
  • Help execute compliance-driven remediations from audits, risk assessments, and internal finding

User Support & IT Operations

  • Provide day-to-day support for internal users, both on-site and remote
  • Assist with formal IT onboarding and off-boarding processes
  • Configure, image, deploy, track, and maintain employee computers in a mixed Mac/Windows environment
  • Help maintain standardized system configurations where possible
  • Troubleshoot laptops, peripherals, VPN, and application access issues

Software & Licensing

  • Support management of software subscriptions, license counts, renewals, and compliance
  • Assist with tracking of license entitlements and maintenance agreements
  • Help evaluate new tools, platforms, and cybersecurity solutions

Administrative & Process Support

  • Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, topologies, policies, and operating procedures
  • Assist with budgeting research, service evaluations, and cost-optimization efforts
  • Participate in vendor interactions as directed by the IT Manager
  • Help prepare materials and system information needed for:
  • Internal audits, parent company audits, and customer audits
  • Certification and compliance reviews

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (Or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 2–4+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Familiarity with data security best practices and access control models
  • Experience with:
  • MacOS, Linux and Windows administration
  • Networking fundamentals (routing, VLAN, firewall rules, VPN)
  • Identity management and MFA
  • Exposure to Google Cloud platform services or other enterprise cloud environments
  • Ability to support users at all technical skill levels with professionalism and clear communication
  • Strong troubleshooting discipline, attention to detail, and willingness to document findings
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt in a dynamic environment, and operate under multiple priorities

Preferred Experience

(Not required but a plus)

  • Working knowledge of enterprise data security, cybersecurity frameworks, or internal audits
  • Familiarity with HPC server configurations, storage systems, or NAS administration
  • MDM or device-management tools (e.g., Jamf, Intune, Workspace ONE)
  • Scripting for automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash, etc.)
  • Managing licensing, SaaS systems, or internal service policies
  • Google Cloud IAM, networking, security policies, and billing optimization
